The image shows human colonic crypts (Crypts of Lieberkuhn) taken from the biopsy of a patient with normal colonic mucosa. The remaining tissue surrounding the cryptal bottom are small blood vessels supplying the crypts and/or traces of residual connective tissue. Tissue fixed with Glutaraldehyde and scanned with Carl Zeiss Evo 50 Scanning Electron Microscope at 524X magnification.
